Mr. Thurman Randolph Jackson, Sr., age 72, a resident of Pinetown, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington.
A graveside funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, at the Rowland/Wallace family cemetery, located at 276 Ripp Highway, Pinetown. The service will be officiated by Johnny Barber and Billy Ray Askew. Pallbearers will be his brothers-in-law, Danny Brooks, Randy Brooks and Kenneth Brooks; nephews, Charles “Anthony” Cooke and Allen Britt; great-nephews, Joshua Britt and Tyler Britt. Honorary pallbearer will be Randy Jackson.
Thurman was born in Martin County on Oct. 11, 1947, son of the late Delwood Eugene Jackson and the late Sally Francis Hardison Jackson. He attended Jamesville High School. On Oct. 10, 1981, he married the former Doris Faye Brooks. Thurman was employed at Weyerhaeuser in Plymouth in forestry before moving inside the mill to work on the paper machines and fiber lines. He retired after 43 years of service with the company Thurman was a husband, father, grandfather and a great friend to all who knew him. He dedicated his life to Christ in 2019, and he loved life to its fullest. Thurman loved to play county league baseball which included playing in Martin and Beaufort counties in the position of catcher. He also enjoyed working on pulling tractors with his son, Randy, building from the bottom to the top and becoming racing champions at times.
Surviving along with his wife, Doris, of the home, Thurman and Doris had one baby daughter together who died at birth, Alicia Danielle. Thurman is survived by a son, Thurman “Randy” Jackson, Jr. and his wife, Mandy, of Pinetown; a daughter, Tina Denise Scott and her husband, Jimmy, of Hamilton; three grandchildren, Tiffany Jackson, Blake Jackson and his wife, Taren, and Jonathan Manseau; step-grandchildren, Breanne and her husband, Chase, Rebecca Parrish and Lauren Scott; four step-great-grandchildren, Carson Ingalls, Jaxson Parrish, Colton Parrish and Addison Scott; four sisters, Emma Allen, Elsie Pierce, Molly Hardison and Sally Eason. He is survived by his mother-in-law, Isabell Brooks, who he loved very much. Thurman said she was his favorite girl. Thurman loved to sit down with all the family to the meals that she prepared. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews who he loved and in return they loved him. Thurman is also survived by Randy and Tina’s mother: Glenda Scott.
Thurman was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Pierce and a brother, Buddy Jackson.
The family will receive friends at the gravesite and other times at the home, 8143 North Boyd Road.
