LaRue Alligood

Ms. LaRue Alligood, age 75, a resident of 5650 Slatestone Road, Washington, died Sunday evening, Feb. 2, 2020, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020, at Oakdale Cemetery, officiated by Marty Alligood and Tim Stamper.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service at Oakdale and other times at her home.

LaRue was born on July 11, 1944, daughter of the late Bennie Thomas Alligood and Ezora Gray Alligood. She attended Pinetown Elementary School and graduated from Bath High School Class of 1962. She was employed at Edward Ray Edwards Insurance Agency from April 12, 1966 to March 1, 2002. At that time, she purchased the insurance agency.

LaRue was a member of Choctaw Council #51 Degree of Pocahontas. In 1971, she was honored as the Best Presiding Pocahontas of NC. She was a member and officer of Beaufort County Grange #1233, serving as secretary since 1976. In 1977, she received the N.C. State Grange Subordinate Secretary of the Year and the Mary W. Scott, N.C. State Grange Secretary of the Year in 1979 and 1999. LaRue was selected as Beaufort County Grange #1233 Granger of the Year three times. She and her family were the strength of Beaufort County Grange #1233. She always served as chairman of the kitchen committee and spearheaded many meals prepared by the Grange.

LaRue was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ. She loved music and enjoyed playing the piano for relaxation and the pleasure of others, who enjoyed her music. She enjoyed many pets over the years that were always members of the family.

LaRue is survived by her nephew, Doug Alligood and wife Starla; great-niece, Heather Dawn Alligood; great-nephew, Dusty Alligood; great-great-nieces, Starlyn and Harley Alligood; sister-in-law, Dot “Mama Dot” Alligood, all of Washington; and her beloved poodle, Princess. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Travis Alligood, and her nephew, Dennis Paul Alligood.
