Nykia Adair Leigh

On Jan. 29, 2020, Nykia Adair Leigh, 38, died at home. Nykia was born on Feb. 8, 1981, in Washington, to the late Adonis and Dorothy Mae Leigh. Her career path included graduation from Washington High School in 1999, graduation from University of North Carolina–Greensboro in 2002, majoring in Political Science and Communications, and in 2007, she received a Master of Arts Degree at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
She furthered her education at the Thomas M. Cooley School of Law in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Nykia earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Cooley in 2011. She moved to Texas and was employed with Dallas County Public Defender’s Office.
In 2015, Nykia moved back to Washington and began her career with Agape Health Services. Just recently, she became the Director of Human Resources with Agape Health Services.
She leaves behind her precious son, Adonis Mason Leigh, of the home; aunts, Patricia Young, of Suffolk, Virginia, Brenda Langley, of Washington, Brendette Leigh, of Edenton, Fran Leigh Credle and Susan Leigh, of Brooklyn, New York; uncles, Samuel Ward Jr., of Washington, and Rodney Leigh of Edenton; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at Temple of Jesus Christ Washington. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Washington.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2020, at Leon Randolph Memorial Chapel, 208 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Washington, and other times at the home.
