After diligent contact tracing of Hyde County’s first case of COVID-19, it has been determined that the identified case has been isolating in Pitt County, where the individual resides, said Misty Gibbs, Hyde Preparedness Coordinator.

The individual has more than one address and provided a Hyde County address when tested, causing Hyde to be the county of ownership.

The individual reports there has been no travel to Hyde County during or after illness and there has been no contact with any individual in Hyde County during this period, Gibbs said.

She also asked everyone to continue to practice the following prevention measures:

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
• Practice social distancing (six feet between individuals); avoid handshakes, hugs and other close contact.

Carteret, Craven, Northampton, Pasquotank and Pitt counties were the closest to our area reporting confirmed cases as of Sunday.‌ ‌ ‌

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases by day reported by state and county health officials was 65 on Mar. 17, 306 on Mar. 22, and 339 on Monday, according to The News & Observer.
