Editor’s note: Oliver Holley, superintendent of Tyrrell County Schools, issued the following memo to faculty, students and parents Monday afternoon (Mar. 23):
Good afternoon,
Governor Roy Cooper has officially closed schools until May 15, 2020, as instructional facilities. This means that all employees are required to work, according to the options provided by each LEA. We will continue to operate on a Teacher Workday Schedule, with the Remote Work Option for all certified employees until April 30, 2020. I will continue to work with the Tyrrell County Schools Board to address our calendar moving forward thru May 15, 2020.
Additionally, we will continue operating our feeding program, on the current schedule. Buses will depart Columbia High School at 10:00am. Our “Grab & Go” locations at Columbia High School, the Gum Neck Community Center and Salem Missionary Baptist Church, will continue to provide meals during this time.
I understand that these are challenging times and we must continue to adapt, to this ever changing landscape.
I would like to thank each of you for your dedication to the students of our district!
We will overcome this obstacle.
