Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

During the month of June, adoption rates will be reduced for cats and kittens at the Beaufort County Animal Shelter. This is made possible by the Humane Society of Beaufort County and the shelter. For more information, call the shelter at 252-946-4517.

The Betsy Bailey Nelson Animal Control Facility/Beaufort County animal shelter is up and running Mondays through Fridays as normal, with the exception of the public coming into the building freely. As with all county facilities, we are accepting visitors for business by appointment only. Saturdays, the shelter will be closed unless an appointment is made before 5 p.m. Friday. Setting an appointment allows our employees to try to answer questions on the phone and screen citizens to make sure they are not experiencing any symptoms of sickness before they come to the shelter. For the shelter specifically, people may call and schedule an appointment to view animals for adoption. These visits will be limited to two people at a time to minimize exposure.

The shelter is located at 3931 U.S. Highway 264 East in Washington. Normal hours open to the public: Mondays through Fridays, by appointment only, 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays, the shelter will be closed unless an appointment is made by 5 p.m. Friday.

Mary

Already spayed and good to go after her reduced fee is paid, meet Mary. She’s a big, beautiful, American shorthair, and this tuxedo girl is all dressed up, wearing her gorgeous coat of black and white. At approximately 3 years old, she’s sweet, friendly and calm, and she will be a wonderful and welcome addition in a good, loving forever home. For more information about Mary, ID No. 0507, see Facebook’s Friends of Beaufort County Shelter Cats page. Pay her a visit; you’ll be glad you did. She’s available at the shelter.

Carly

Friendly, sweet and very pretty just begins to describe Carly. She’s listed as a large, approximately, 2-year-old, tricolor — white, tan and black — hound mix. This active gal will do best with active family/owner(s) who will be attentive, take her with them on their outings, give her exercise/play, preferably in a fenced area or on a leash, give her some obedience training and, of course, a good forever home. For more about Carly, ID No. 0494, visit Facebook’s ENC Shelter Dogs page. Come see her; she’s available at the shelter.
