A Washington man died at Vidant Beaufort Hospital Tuesday morning after a wreck involving a moped and an SUV on U.S. Highway 264.
According to N.C. State Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. Gary Brown, Zachary Blake, 24, of Washington, was headed west on U.S. Highway 264 on a moped when he attempted to make a left turn at the intersection with VOA Road. As Blake was crossing the eastbound lanes of traffic, he was struck by a SUV.
Brown said that Blake was transported to Vidant Beaufort Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the SUV was uninjured in the crash. In addition to the NCSHP, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and Clark’s Neck Fire and Rescue Department.
“We don’t foresee anyone being charged, but it’s still in the investigation stage,” Brown said.
Brown added it appeared as though Blake failed to yield to oncoming traffic.
