Over the years the words ‘tree hugger’ is a term used for various reasons. Consider the American Black Bear (Ursus americanus). if possible danger approaches, mother bears teach their cubs to climb trees and hold on. At Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge the pictured cub has climbed a tree and is hugging it until mother bear gives the all-clear signal to come down. During the pandemic crisis many people miss giving out hugs. Here’s an opportunity to give hugs – hug a tree! You don’t need to be in danger and you don’t even need to climb.
