The Southern Albemarle Association “will not be able to meet again for a second quarter (July 16) due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and the Governor’s Executive Order,” association secretary Judi Lannon of Aurora announced July 7.
“We plan to meet October 15 at the Vernon James Center for our annual meeting, Lannon stated. “We hope to make it a nice Homecoming, as the SAA has not gone this long without meeting since World War II, (we think).”
Delegates to the Southern Albemarle Association are appointed by the county commissioners in the six counties that comprise the association: Beaufort, Dare, Hyde, Martin, Tyrrell and Washington.
The organizational meeting of the association was held in Columbia in 1935, and its purpose was and is to promote better transportation: highways, bridges, ferries, airports, bike and pedestrian paths, roadside convenience stops.
