The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 99,803 Sunday to 101,231 Monday. There have been 1,677 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 25 overnight. The state currently has 1,186 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 67,124 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Beaufort County had a total of 204 confirmed cases as of Monday, an increase of 16 over the weekend. Six people are hospitalized. Beaufort County’s numbers increased by 49 new cases last week, followed by 16 on Monday for a total of 65 new cases over the last week . There are currently 62 active COVID-19 cases in Beaufort County, 141 people have recovered from the virus, and one person died on June 24. That person was the 56th person in the county to test positive for the virus.

“Sixteen of our most recent 26 cases were symptomatic at the time of their test, and one was asymptomatic. Nine of these cases have been attributed to community spread. Four were identified through contact tracing and have been attributed to having had contact with other known cases. All other cases are currently under investigation. Forty-six of our total positives were asymptomatic at the time of their test,” reads the Monday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

Contact tracing of the 204 known, confirmed cases has concluded:

• 121 cases have been attributed to direct contact with another known positive case;
• two cases were related to travel to a known outbreak area;
• 65 cases are attributed to community spread;
• 16 cases are still under investigation.

All active cases are self-isolating, the update reads.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 3,760,975 Sunday to 3,804,907 Monday; these numbers include 1,131,121 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19, according to the update. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 14,604,077 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 140,811 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 340 overnight, the update reads.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Monday numbered (does not include number of recovered): Bertie (178), Beaufort (204), Bladen (487), Brunswick (947), Carteret (178), Camden (46), Chowan (61), Columbus (713), Craven (514), Currituck (51); Dare (150), Duplin (1,768), Edgecombe (454), Gates (32), Greene (254), Halifax (480), Hertford (200), Hyde (33), Jones (43), Lenoir (453), Martin (186), New Hanover (1,835), Northampton (251), Onslow (585), Pamlico (44), Pasquotank (267), Pender (484), Perquimans (45), Pitt (1,215), Sampson (1,305), Tyrrell (66), Washington (75), Wayne (2,103) and Wilson (1,136). Durham (5,110), Mecklenburg (17,571) and Wake (8,897) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 3,315 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Monday, with 2,932 negatives, 195 positives and 188 pending. These are cumulative numbers and include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Nine of Beaufort County’s cases were tested in other counties but are Beaufort County residents.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.

“There were approximately 580 tests completed by Beaufort Co. agencies last week,” the update reads.
