Year-end tax report reveals unpaid balances

As the 2019-20 fiscal year closed on June 30, property owners owed Tyrrell County $399,584 in delinquent property tax, motor vehicle tax, and solid waste fees.
The 2019 property tax balance was $155,330. This levy began accruing interest last Jan. 6.
Outstanding property tax and interest for 2018 was $62,715, for 2017 it was $41,768, and for 2016 it came to $23,887.
The motor vehicle tax is now collected by DMV when registration is renewed annually, but some taxes remained unpaid for 2010-2013 in the aggregate of $12,559.
The solid waste fee, now $200 a year, had an unpaid balance for 2019 of $55,359. For 2018 it was $25,242, for 2017 it was $17,367, and for 2016 it came to $13,523.
The unpaid LCID fee ($35 annually) to support the land clearing and inert debris field on Smith Lane amounted to $15,762 for 2017-19.
