Second death from COVID-19 in Tyrrell County

Martin-Tyrrell-Washington District Health (MTW) has received notification confirming the second death associated with COVID-19 in Tyrrell County.
The 31-year-old Columbia man died Aug. 12 and is survived by his wife and two daughters residing here and by his parents, according to his obituary.
Another Columbia man, 62, died from COVID-19 on July 5.
As of Sunday night, MTW was reporting 104 confirmed cases in Tyrrell County since the viral pandemic hit in March. Ninety-six have recovered, and there have been two deaths.
Martin County is reporting 296 total cases, with 260 recovered and six deaths.
Washington County has recorded 147 cases with 129 recovered and four deaths.
The health department also reported 2,347 COVID-19 deaths across North Carolina through this past Sunday night, 173,124 in the United States, and 773,032 in 213 countries and territories worldwide.
The latest figures show a decline in the number of new cases reported in North Carolina and 22 other states.
Diagnostic tests had been performed through Aug. 12 as follows: Martin County 3,272 or 14% of the population, Tyrrell County 631 or 15.3% of the population, and Washington County 1,673 or 13.7% of the population, MTW reported
