Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,306 Friday. There are now 202 active cases in the county, and six people are hospitalized, according to the Thursday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.
According to the update, 1,068 of the 1,306 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Thirty-six Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 27 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Friday afternoon.
The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 7,966,634 Thursday to 8,032,805 Friday; these numbers include 3,177,397 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 39,160,871 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 218,410 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 809 overnight.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 238,939 Thursday to 242,632 Friday. There have been 3,910 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 36 overnight. The state currently has 1,148 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 206,471 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.
Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Friday numbered: Bertie, (674), Beaufort (1,306), Bladen (1,014), Brunswick (1,986), Carteret (964), Camden (131), Chowan (482), Columbus (1,557), Craven (2,076), Currituck (214), Dare (319), Duplin (2,644), Edgecombe (1,732), Gates (160), Greene (820), Halifax (1,220), Hertford (837), Hyde (174), Jones (173), Lenoir (1,236), Martin (586), New Hanover (4,821), Northampton (514), Onslow (2,880), Pamlico (298), Pasquotank (806), Pender (1,166), Perquimans (221), Pitt (5,703) Sampson (2,503), Tyrrell (119), Washington (236), Wayne (4,056) and Wilson (2,640). Mecklenburg (31,279), Wake (19,583), Guilford (10,286) and Durham (8,484) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.
There had been 17,458 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Thursday, with 1,306 positives. Since March, 71 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.
Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.
The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
