Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,407 Tuesday. There are now 167 active cases in the county, and six people are hospitalized, according to the Tuesday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.
According to the update, 1,198 of the 1,407 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Forty-three Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 29 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Tuesday afternoon.
The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 8,679,483 Monday to 8,755,581 Tuesday; these numbers include 3,460,455 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 43,806,468 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 226,383 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 888 overnight.
Tuesday’s update reported confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina numbering 263,883, with 4,211 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 41 overnight. There are currently 1,214 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 231,611 people presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.
Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday numbered: Bertie (727), Beaufort (1,407), Bladen (1,080), Brunswick (2,168), Carteret (1,125), Camden (135), Chowan (526), Columbus (1,673), Craven (2,314), Currituck (222); Dare (368), Duplin (2,774), Edgecombe (1,973), Gates (167), Greene (961), Halifax (1,394), Hertford (853), Hyde (175), Jones (199), Lenoir (1,437), Martin (636), New Hanover (5,229), Northampton (559), Onslow (3,268), Pamlico (315), Pasquotank (863), Pender (1,383), Perquimans (246), Pitt (6,113), Sampson (2,724), Tyrrell (131), Washington (250), Wayne (4,525) and Wilson (2,964). Durham (8,933), Guilford (11,278), Mecklenburg (33,552) and Wake (20,953) have had the most total case counts in the state.
There had been 18,985 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Tuesday, with 1,407 positives. Since March, 75 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.
Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.
The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
