Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,504 Monday. There are now 107 active cases in the county, and one person is hospitalized, according to the Monday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department. The one person hospitalized is on a ventilator.

According to the update, 1,349 of the 1,504 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Forty-eight Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 35 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Friday afternoon.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 9,944,786 Sunday to 10,042,654 Monday; these numbers include 3,881,558 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 50,766,136 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 237,835 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 351 overnight.

Monday’s update reported confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina numbering 294,860 , with 4,650 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of eight overnight. There are currently 1,169 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 261,719 people presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Monday numbered: Bertie (756), Beaufort (1,504), Bladen (1,143), Brunswick (2,396), Carteret (1,367), Camden (138), Chowan (551), Columbus (1,955), Craven (2,554), Currituck (253); Dare (453), Duplin (2,959), Edgecombe (2,172), Gates (174), Greene (1,029), Halifax (1,600), Hertford (893), Hyde (179), Jones (212), Lenoir (1,661), Martin (702), New Hanover (5,767), Northampton (631), Onslow (3,893), Pamlico (341), Pasquotank (934), Pender (1,551), Perquimans (271), Pitt (6,665), Sampson (3,061), Tyrrell (134), Washington (278), Wayne (5,019) and Wilson (3,396). Durham (9,816), Guilford (13,032), Mecklenburg (36,464) and Wake (23,223) have had the most total case counts in the state.

There had been 20,186 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Monday, with 1,504 positives. Since March, 79 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.

Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Beaufort County’s percentage of deaths per total cases is 3.2%.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
