Mrs. Rena Mae Spencer Harrell, 82, of Columbia, died, Sunday, November 8, 2020, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Rena was born in Tyrrell County on March 15, 1938, to the late Floyd and Virginia Davenport Spencer. She was married to Carlisle Harrell who survives.
She was a faithful member of the Columbia Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a lifelong pianist, choir member, and president of the Women Missionary Union. Before her retirement, she worked as a public educator with the Tyrrell County Elementary Schools System for thirty-nine years, during her time in public education she was recognized with the teacher of the year award.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at 2: 00 p.m. at Columbia Missionary Baptist Church. Royce Williams will officiate. Burial will follow at Azalea Memorial Gardens.
In addition to her husband surviving is a daughter, Beverly Swain, and husband Robert of Columbia, two grandchildren, Andrew Swain and wife Chelsea of Cary and Sarah Swain and Will of Columbia, and one great-grandchild Hunter Copeland.
