Mr. Raymond Robert “Ray” Bergevin, age 81, a resident of Goose Creek Drive, Washington, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, at his home.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, at Oakdale Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Jay Martin. The procession will be leaving from the funeral home for those who wish to be a part of it.
Honorary “Golfers” pallbearers are Rob Bergevin, Zoph Potts, Tom Archie, Pat Brown and Hodges Hackney.
Ray was born in Peoria, Illinois, on July 1, 1939. He was the son of the late Wilfred Bergevin and Sarah Cameron Bergevin. Ray received a bachelor’s degree from Bradley University and a master’s degree from Canisius College. He moved to Washington in 1977, where he worked for Hackney and Sons. Later Ray and Zoph Potts became co-owners of Snowden and Associates. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf, being on the water, traveling, working outside and building furniture. More than anything, he loved being “Zilla” to his grandchildren.
In 1965, Mr. Bergevin married the former Teresa Anne “Terri” Lucey, who survives.
Surviving with Mrs. Bergevin are his daughter, Michelle Bergevin Pyburn and her husband, Phillip Pyburn, and their children, Courtney, Taylor, Ryan Pyburn; his son, Daniel Ray Bergevin and his wife, Katie Bergevin, and their children, Robert, Anne, Jack Bergevin; his sister, Barbara Bergevin Speck and her husband, Al Speck, of Springfield, Illinois; and several nephews.
