Mr. Daryl Keith Woolard, age 72, a resident of Washington passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020.
Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020 in Wesley Hall at the First United Methodist Church and will be conducted by Rev. Ken Hall. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Mr. Woolard was born December 6, 1947 in Beaufort County to the late Reuben Harold Woolard and Sidney Ann Waters Woolard. On November 21, 1991 he married Jane Thomas Kornegay who survives. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 22 years of service in the United States Army. He served as the Electronic Warfare/Signal Intelligence Chief for 17 years and Public Affairs Chief for 21 years. He received numerous medals including, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. He was Postmaster of the USPS in Edward, NC until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Jane Thomas Kornegay Woolard, his children, Terry Woolard and wife Kerri of Boone, Christopher John Woolard and wife Antoinette of Banner Elk, Thomas Franz and fiancée Kathryn Webster of Wilmington, Brett O’Brien and husband Robert of Washington, Erin Franz and husband Gregory Cushing of Washington, his sister in law, Kim Woolard of Washington, sister in law, Anne Gray and husband Harry Frick of Candler, nieces, Catherine Skobe, Cynthia Brown, Julie Brooks, sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Mitchel Woolard.
