Located along the banks of the Pamlico River, Pamlico Plantation offers residents a chance to soak up the sun on the water or land in a private, secluded setting. 

The neighborhood was developed by the Weyerhaeuser Corporation on property along the Pamlico River. The developers originally intended for the community to be marketed as a sailing community and a large majority of sailboats are docked at the marina. The land was chosen for the dense cover of trees and the community continues to preserve the wildlife and greenery originally found on the land. The development is adjacent to Goose Creek State Park, meaning stunning vistas and outdoor activities are never far from the homes. 

Pamlico Plantation consists of 80 townhomes and 200 other single family home sites within the confines of a private and gated community. Of these 200 sites, some are vacant lots. Townhomes in the neighborhood have between two and three bedrooms, while single family homes vary more in terms of size.

“There’s such a brain trust of knowledge here. We have all sorts of interesting people and it’s just fascinating what stories they bring to the neighborhood. It’s a very friendly accepting community,”said Gennell Monagham, a resident and member of the volunteer marketing committee. “Even though we haven’t had an opportunity to have indoor activities because of COVID, the neighborhood is really great for outdoor activities.”

Every property comes with a dedicated boat slip at the Pamlico Plantation Marina. In addition to marina, residents can enjoy amenities such as pickleball and tennis courts, a large community pool, a children’s play area and a fully functioning library with a large selection of books, magazines and movies available to rent. 

Several of these homes and properties are currently available for purchase. 14 undeveloped lots are on the market with an average listing price of $49,979. Two homes are for sale with an average listing price of $291,500. No townhomes in the development are currently available for rent or purchase. 

“We have a very diverse population from people who are retired and have moved from other areas across the country. We do have families with young children who work locally and a lot of people who work in the medical field,” Monagham said. 

Pamlico Plantation fosters this sense of community through their available clubs and volunteer opportunities. Current clubs include those that focus on books, hunting, knitting and crocheting, bridge and Mah Jongg and two  men’s breakfast groups. There is also a Committee Relations Committee that focuses on welcoming newcomers and sponsors various social activities for residents.
