Beaufort County Schools’ summer meal program is set to begin June 1.
The summer meal program is available to all Beaufort County residents ages 18 and under, regardless of whether they are enrolled in Beaufort County Schools.
Before the program officially begins, BCS will offer Memorial Day weekend meal bags. Those will be available for curbside pickup on Friday, May 28. The summer meal program will begin the following Monday and run through Aug. 20. School nutrition staff will work Monday through Thursday. Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day, and families will be able to pick up three-day weekend meal boxes each Thursday.
Parents and legal guardians will be able to pick up meals for their children. Someone other than a parent or legal guardian can pick up meals for children if they have a permission slip on file.
The school system will announce meal pickup times soon. The pickup locations are Chocowinity Primary School; P.S. Jones Middle School; Northeast Elementary School; River Road Estates in Washington; Thomas Lane in Washington; Elizabeth Chapel Church of Christ in Blounts Creek; Elks Mobile Home Park in Chocowinity; Harris Acres Mobile Home Park in Chocowinity; Fresh Anointing Worship Center in Aurora; Beebe Chapel AME Church in Washington; and the Salvation Army on Seventh Street in Washington.
School nutrition staff will also provide meals for students enrolled in the district’s summer school program. Those meals will be served in the respective school cafeterias.
BCS School Nutrition Director Joanne Kirven said families can arrange to have meals delivered to their homes if they are unable to make it to one of the distribution sites.
Anyone with questions or concerns about the summer meal program should call 252-946-2012.
