Beaufort County Community College is offering in-person summer enrichment programs for kids and teens on campus. The programs provide a variety of experiences — including technology, cooking, etiquette, theatre, business and outdoor safety — for youth of varying ages. To make the programs accessible to more families, BCCC will offer one free class to every child. Guardians will need to apply for a scholarship to take advantage of this offer. Bicycle Rodeo

BCCC has a huge new driving pad, and it is a fine place to ride a bike. Bike riders up to the fifth grade grade can join the Washington Police Department for this Saturday morning event. Participants will learn bike safety for riding in town and enjoy the fun of riding on the traffic-free pad. The college will have bikes and helmets to share, but participants can bring their own. This event is free, but registration is required to participate. This program takes place from 9 – 10 a.m. on June 5.

Piano Camp

Rising fifth- through ninth-graders will spend four mornings uncovering musical talent. The college provides the keyboards for learning simple tunes that will lead to the pleasure of making music. Playing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star gives a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment. Students may discover a desire to continue musical training after this experience. The program meets from 10:00-11:30 a.m. on Monday through Thursday, June 21–June 24. It costs $55.

3D Modeling and Printing

3D Printing has many manufacturing, scientific, and medical applications. In BCCC’s CAD lab, rising sixth graders and up will set up a design and manufacturing lab complete with two 3D printers. They will use computers to create three-dimensional renderings of an object, employing geometric constraints and extrusions to complete the plan. Finally, participants will set up and run a 3D printer to create that object that they will carry home. All supplies included. This $90 program will take place at 5:50 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 20-29.

The Best You Can Be

This session can help Girl Scouts earn their Business Etiquette badge. It will help them learn important skills that encourage them to reveal their talents and abilities to others. They will learn to best manage your words and actions during job interviews, school presentations, and social activities. Join Lillian Chapman as she leads a lively and interactive evening. This $20 program for rising sixth graders and up will take place from 6 – 8:30 p.m. on Monday, July 26.

Babysitting

If rising fourth-graders and up are ready to take responsibility for young children, then this camp is for them. Jessica Mann, the leader of BCCC’s Early Childhood Education Program, will share important basics for babysitters. Learn aspects of care giving, safety concerns, communication with kids and parents, activity ideas, household and food management, and even some business basics. The class will practice first aid/CPR one day to give babysitters important emergency skills. The $100 program takes place from 9:00 a.m. -noon Monday through Thursday, July 26-July 29.
