The Washington City Council is scheduled to meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday in room 214 of the Washington Municipal Building.

The agenda includes another step in the process of potentially amending the city’s charter to change City Council term lengths from two years to four years. On Monday, City Council will consider adopting a resolution of intent to consider an ordinance amending the charter. Council will also need to set a date for a public hearing on the matter. After that public hearing, City Council would be able to vote on the ordinance.

Per state law, term length is one part of its charter a city can amend without action by the general Assembly.

In other business, City Council will consider the planning board’s recommendation to approve a revised preliminary subdivision plat for a proposed 17-lot, single-family residential subdivision near the intersection of Avon Avenue and Atkins Drive. The property currently houses the defunct Washington Racquet Club.

City Council denied a similar preliminary plat for that same property in April. One lot has been removed in the revised version in order to “provide for some slightly larger lots and larger open space area,” according to a supporting document.

The planning board held a public hearing on the revised proposal on May 25. The board unanimously voted to recommend that City Council approve the preliminary plat.
