BELHAVEN – The budget for the 2021-2022 fiscal year was approved at the most recent Board of Aldermen meeting Monday.
The council approved the budget unanimously after two special meetings were called to discuss the proposed budget.
The general fund budget totals $1,736,445 with taxes staying at the same rate as the 2020-2021 fiscal year budget.
“Ad-Valorem taxes are our largest source of General Fund revenue at approximately 35%. Our tax rate remains $0.59 per one hundred dollars ($100.00) valuation of the property as listed for taxes as of January 1, 2021, said Belhaven town manager Lynn Davis. “This has been a very challenging year for all of us. Based on our projections, we believe this is a realistic budget to continue for the Town to improve and prosper.”
This budget approval will mark the end of Mimi van Nortwick’s time as town finance director. She has served as finance director since September 2018.
“With Lynn Davis at the helm and such a supportive Town Council, it has been a pleasure working for the citizens of Belhaven,” van Nortwick said of her retirement.
Krystie Moore has been training under van Nortwick and will begin her time as finance director for Belhaven later this week.
