“Community Family and Friends Fun Day” is set to take place at P.S. Jones Memorial Park on Saturday.
The event will run from noon to 8 p.m. and is free to attend. It will include free food, school supplies live music, activities for all ages and prizes. Agape Health will offer COVID-19 vaccinations.
Darryl Leathers, one of the event’s organizers, said he helped put together a string of similar events starting in 1995.
“It was a family and friends day event that we put together for the community to come out, eat and have a good time,” Leathers said. “We did it maybe four years. And then between storms coming and people moving away, we kind of lost track and stopped doing it. So I asked a few people that used to be on the event committee if they wanted to put it back together, and they said yes.”
Organizers are looking for volunteers to help run the event. To learn more about volunteering, call 252-915-4575 or 252-341-9594.
“We just wanted to give people the opportunity to come out,” said Leathers, a Belhaven native. “The pandemic’s been keeping everybody in for a while. Some people just don’t get a chance to go out and do nothing, period. So we just try to make it a fun day in the community.”
P.S. Jones Memorial Park is located next to the former Ed Tech Center building, which is located at 820 Bridge St. in Washington.
