To the Editor,
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Literacy Volunteers of Beaufort County, I would like to thank the residents of Beaufort County for their outpouring of support for our program. The article so graciously ran by Karen Thiel concerning our financial woes was so very helpful. We averted our crisis for now and can continue to serve adults in our county who need help in improving their reading, writing, speaking and math skills to help them live a better life.
Now, like other nonprofits, we could use additional volunteer tutors. We offer a free 15-hour training course for tutors that includes both online and in-person meetings to familiarize the volunteer with tutoring techniques. Anyone interested in tutoring should contact our office at 114 E. 15th St. in Washington from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday for more information.
