Eleanor Stark Dickey Perkins was born on September 4, 1933, in Cave City, KY, to parents Jessal and Earle Dickey. Eleanor devotedly reared two sons from her first marriage, fully expecting to spend the rest of her life in Cave City. That was not to be, as Eleanor later met tobacconist Robin Perkins. They married and moved to Robin’s hometown of Washington, NC, where she spent the next four decades. Washington became home, and Eleanor cherished wonderful memories of her time there. Eleanor was particularly fond of her friends and the attentive staff of the First Baptist Church of Washington. She treasured her relationships with, and the spiritual guidance of, the late Reverend Dr. Jimmy Moore and now-Pastor Dr. Greg Barmer. After Robin’s death, Eleanor moved to Jackson, MS, to be near family. In Jackson, Eleanor immersed herself in life at the Carleton Apartments, where she enjoyed her independence until her death, often sitting on the patio outside her apartment, and visiting timelessly with her new friends. But nothing provided Eleanor with more happiness and pride than her beloved family, including grandchildren Sarah, John, Coleman and David; sons David and John; and, daughters-in-law Teresa and Anna. Eleanor passed away peacefully on November 17, 2021, at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson. In addition to Robin, Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters. The family wishes to express its deepest appreciation to the men and women of St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson for their wonderful care and tireless attendance to Eleanor.
