Coastal Plains volleyball champion Northside had three players named to the All-Conference squad and Southside had one after a vote by the league coaches.
Seniors Paige Sawyer and Shyanne Buck along with junior Hannah Baker represented the Panthers, while senior Moriah Jones was chosen from the Seahawks.
The Panthers won the league for the first time with a perfect 10-0 record and went 2-03 overall, including a trip to the third round of the 1A state playoffs.
“All three played a big role in helping us get there,” Panthers coach Michelle Leathers said. “Paige was a tremendous setter for us and our offense ran through her. Shyanne (at 6’4) gave us a strong hitter on the front row and Hannah played very well defensively and served well for us.
All of them hustled and made a lot of things easier for me as a coach. They all put the team first and set a good tone for the rest of the group. I’m happy Hannah is coming back and wish the other two were also.”
Three players from East Carteret also made the squad, including Player of the Year, Anna Gillikin. Three also made it from perennial power Pamlico County along with two from Lejeune and Jones Sr. Lejeune’s Mark Carlsen was voted Coach of the Year after a 3-7 conference record and a 3-13 overall mark.
