The Northside Panthers ended the regular season with a pair of blowout victories over LeJeune Thursday night at home on Senior Night.
The girls jumped out to a 19-3 lead on the way to a 58-22 victory to end the season 8-2 in the Coastal Plains Conference and 15-2 overall, with both losses to 2A East Carteret.
Seniors Shyanne Buck, Hensely Jordan and Paige Sawyer were recognized for their contributions to the program after the game.
“Shyanne and Hensely transferred here this season and Paige came to us last year,” coach Michelle Leathers said. “They’ve all fit right in and all bring something different. They’ve helped our communication and ball movement improve and we are looking forward to a strong post-season.”
Northside has been among the top 1A teams in the east all season and await this weekend’s playoff seeding announcement.
Sophomore Mariah Jones led the scoring with 14 points, freshman Olivia Jane (O.J.) Cahoon had 13 and Buck had 10.
The boys kept their post-season hopes alive with a 76-35 rout as all nine players in uniform scored.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better Senior Night,” coach Jared Adams said. “We had a couple guys get hurt in our last game (against Pamlico) and everyone stepped up tonight. We shot the ball better and it was a good way to close the regular season. I’m optimistic that we will be playing next week.”
The Panthers finished 9-10 overall and 2-8 in the conference.
Seniors Hunter Braddy and Keifer Boyd led the scoring with 16 and 12 points.
They were recognized along with Fortino Beltran, Landon Cahoon, Arie DeHoog, Blake Fuell, Mike Jones and Bryson Proctor in a pre-game ceremony.
