FREE OTC MEDICINE GIVEAWAY: NC MedAssist is hosting a local Mobile Free Pharmacy Event, in partnership with Vidant Beaufort Hospital, on Friday, April 29. The event will be held from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Beaufort County Community College. The free medicine giveaway is open to any individual or family in need of over-the-counter (OTC) medication items. Items include cough and cold medicine, vitamins, children’s, allergy medication, first aid supplies, etc. Participants must be at least 18 years old to receive medicine. No identification is required. There are no income limitations for the program.

50th ANNIVERSARY BLACK TIE BLOCK PARTY: Saturday April 30 from 7-10 p.m at the Historic Turnage Theatre as well as up and down the length of Main Street, sponsored by Arts of the Pamlico to celebrate its 50th anniversary as an Arts Council in North Carolina.

PARKS AND PAWS: Saturday, April 30 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Goose Creek State Park across from the Visitor’s Center. The Humane Society of Beaufort County and Yaweh’s Heart Rescue will have pets to meet and adopt. Demonstrations by Chocowinity Search and Rescue and Drake Parker of Top Dog Academy. Food trucks, Kona Ice, face painting, crafts for kids and door prizes are also part of the event.

DANCE CONCERT FUNDRAISER: Raise the Barre, a dance concert organized by The Releve Project, a non-profit supporting local artists, will take place at 5 p.m. May 1 at Wright Auditorium on the campus of ECU. Local youth from Washington, Greenville, and surrounding areas, many of which have benefited from TRP’s resources, will be performing. Tickets are $15 and are available online through the ECU Central Ticket Office. Ticket proceeds provide scholarships, sponsorships and resources for young artists in North Carolina.

RABIES VACCINE CLINIC: Beaufort County Animal Control will hold its annual Rabies Vaccine Clinic Saturday, May 7 at the following times and locations: Belhaven, Farmers Market, 144 West Main Street from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.; Washington, Beaufort County Health Department, 1436 Highland Drive from 10:45 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Aurora, Public Works, Pearl Street from 9-10 a.m.; and Chocowinity, Chocowinity Pet Resort & Day Camp, 89 Maple Court from 10:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. Cost is $7, cash only. BATH FEST: Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Features include the return of the Loose Cannon Crew at Bonner’s Point, with their popular hands-on historical interpretations of the Golden Age of Piracy.   Other features will include musical performances at Bonner House, with classical selections from the Pitt Community College Symphony Orchestra at 12 p.m., bluegrass/country with The Still Shakers from 1- 3 p.m.  Arts and crafts vendors, civic groups’ food booths, and an art exhibit featuring the work of Bath Elementary School students will also be offered. Choral groups will be performing at the Elementary School.

All proceeds go to Bright Futures and a family in our community.

OFFICER RECRUITMENT EVENT: The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Law Enforcement Division will soon be accepting applications for the 59th Wildlife Law Enforcement Basic Academy. They will be hosting a virtual recruitment event on Thursday May 26, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. During this event, NC Wildlife Law Enforcement Officers will give a presentation on the duties and responsibilities of their positions, including the application process. After the presentation there will be a Q&A session to ask questions or gain additional information about a Career in NC Wildlife Law Enforcement. SUMMER FESTIVAL: JUNE 10-11 on Water Street along the Washington Waterfront. Washington native Craig Woolard and The Embers will perform Friday night and the Alabama Blues Queen herself, DieDra Ruff, will take the stage Saturday night. There will be a 5K fun run on Saturday morning. Rides, bounce houses and games will be set up for kids. Saturday, armbands will be available for $25 for all-you-can-ride amusements from 1-4 p.m., and United Way will be holding a “duckie” race on the waterfront. Food includes ice cream, funnel cakes, burgers and shrimp baskets. The Little Washington Sailing School will be giving free sailboat rides.
