This past weekend Tracey and I went to see my children in Berlin, Maryland for three days.  We always stay at hotel in Ocean City because it is only eight miles from Berlin.  Now, they are Tracey’s step-children but to her, they are children she never had.

Berlin was voted “The Coolest Town in America “a couple of years ago.  There have been several movies filmed there and their downtown is unique. The Atlantic Hotel is a constant in downtown Berlin and many scenes from Runaway Bride were filmed in Atlantic Hotel.  The restaurant is the neatest place and quests are treated like a Country Club.

On the way home we were speaking about the kids playing lacrosse.  I really do not care as long as they are competing.  My oldest grandson, Geren, is playing football for the local high school and doing everything that is required of him to play.  He also has a part-time job as well as going to high school.  The other four grandchildren will have jobs as they get older living near the beach.

That was the first time Tracey had seen a lacrosse match.  Lacrosse is an up and coming sport in North Carolina but has been played for some time in the North.  They have girls lacrosse and my granddaughter, Emory, is a star.  Her father was a swimmer in college and her mom played high school tennis so you can tell how competitive she is, plus the only girl among four boys.  The boys will take care of her if need be!

I cannot believe how much they have grown and my children have become great parents.  Hope and Gray are good parents and married to solid Christian men, Brian and Ross.  I do not have anything to worry about from the parental stand point.

I have not mentioned my son, Will, who is a lawyer in Durham, N.C.  We plan to visit him and his wife, Joyce and four children in May.  He graduated from Duke and just stayed in Durham and made it his home.  Together, we have three children and nine grandchildren.  With a busy schedule it is hard to visit them and they too have busy schedules with the children.

Let me urge you parents to travel to visit your children and grandchildren as much as possible because they will get older before you know it!  We plan on visiting at least every other month because the oldest is now a freshman in high school.  Calista and Geren are both freshmen in high school at their respective towns.  Parents, be glad if your children live close to you and please do not miss an opportunity to see them.

They were the best of times with the best of friends and in the best of places, Washington, N.C.
