Barbara Jean Gibbs, 77, of Engelhard, died, Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

Barbara Jean was born in Tyrrell County on November 6, 1944, to the late George Thomas and Margarette Gibbs. She was married to Jerry Wayne Gibbs who survives.

She was a graduate of Elizabeth City State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She worked as an Emergency Medical Technician and later worked for the former Pungo District Hospital as a Certified Nurse Aid for five years.

Per her request, no services will be held at this time.

In addition to her husband surviving are two sons, Eddie Gibbs of Asheville, NC, Tadpole Gibbs (Yvette) of Engelhard; a daughter Wendi Gibbs of Greenville; four grandchildren, Brandy Allen (Tyler) of Belhaven, Allie McKeel (Josh) of Engelhard, Victoria Richmond (Taylor) of Sylva and James Kyle Gibbs of Manteo; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Privett, Lexi Privett, Tatum “Tater” Allen, and Palmer “Magnolia” McKeel.

She was preceded in death by a brother James Audrey Gibbs.

Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry W. Gibbs.
