The Washington Whitecaps swim team hit the water for the first time this summer earlier this week in Tarboro.

Aubrey Woolard led the 13-14 girls with victories in the 100 individual medley (1:11), the 50-yard freestyle (27.48) and the 50 butterfly (29.94).

Avry Midgette won three events in the 11-12 girls. She took the 50-freestyle (29.25), the 50-backstroke (36.92) and the 50-breaststroke (38.69).

Cole Blanks also won three times in the boys 9-10 age group. He swam the 100-individual medley in 1:42.1, the 50-free in 37.93 and the 50-butterfly in 43.42.

WHS rising senior Abby Lewis won the 50-free in the 15-18 age group in 31.08 seconds, finished second in the 50-butterfly (39.21) and third in the 50-breaststroke (45.41)

Hudson Capehart won the 25-yard backstroke in the 6u boys in 30.17 seconds and was fifth in the 25-freestyle.

Wallace Atkins was second in the 25-free (27.64) and the 25-backstroke (35.7) in the 6u girls division.

“Tarboro had a lot more swimmers than we did, so I think we competed well,” Whitecaps coach Scott Pake said. “We have combined with a Greenville team, the Minges Makos, so we have enough volunteers for meets. The Washington kids did very well and are off to a good start.”
