Friends and family gathered to celebrate Josephine Royster’s 90th birthday including Mayor of Washington Donald Sadler. 

 

Sadler presented Royster with a proclamation wishing her a happy birthday. “Ms. Royster was a staple and wise sage for youngsters in our community when I was coming up. She is still a vital part of the Washington Housing Authority as it’s senior Board member.  And it is apparent that she is loved and still vital in her church,” he wrote on social media. 

 

Royster has held a position on the Washington Housing Authority Board since 1994. She is sole member from the original board who helped the housing authority become incorporated as a nonprofit. Through the authority, the Clifton Meadows Apartments were constructed. 

 

The celebration was hosted on Sunday, July 17 at Harvest church in Washington.
