The Beaufort County Board of Education approved several items on its agenda at its meeting Tuesday. In other action, the board:
- Unanimously approved a resolution, presented by Wesley Beddard, dean of instruction at Beaufort County Community College, opposing a plan to merge BCCC with another community college. The plan is now before a committee of the N.C. General Assembly.
- Voted unanimously to approve a contract with Parables Educational Resource Center for personal-care assistants for qualifying students
- Unanimously approved a compensation schedule for classified employees and others who are not school faculty but who serve as coaches. The salary scale varies based on years of coaching experience, the sport coached and the school, according to information presented to the board.
- Unanimously approved a student-and-parent-or-guardian contract and acceptable-use agreement for ninth- and 10th-grade students at the Beaufort County Early College High School. Laptop computers will replace most of the textbooks used by ninth- and tenth-grade students at the school when school begins in August. The contract and agreement will guide the way students use the technology and gain access to the Internet, the board was told.
- Voted unanimously to approve BCS’s Career and Technical Education Plan for school year 2011-2012 as required by the state and federal government.
- Unanimously approved a four-page personnel agenda that included 11 new certified-personnel and three classified-personnel appointments as well as transfers, resignations, retirements and a roster of volunteer coaches for Chocowinity Middle and Southside High schools.
