The Beaufort County Choral Society wants you! No tryouts–all you need is a love of singing and the ability to match pitch. Experience singing in choirs and the ability to read music are plusses but not necessary. BCCS rehearses on Mondays, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m, at the First Presbyterian Church, 211 W 2nd Street, Washington, with the first rehearsal on Monday, August 29.
New choral director, Noah Sigsworth, holds a BA in music and a minor in communications and he is pursuing an MM in Choral Conducting. His experience includes Assistant Conductor for the Greenville Choral Society and Assistant Music Director for ECU’s “Mamma Mia.” He uses his positive attitude to bring out the best in his singers and approaches a chorus group as a closely-knit community as well as a professional ensemble. He wants rehearsals to be fun and educational.
“I believe that music, and the act of creating it, should be a part of everyone’s life,” Sigsworth said. “BCCS provides an opportunity for people of all stripes and levels of musical experience to come together in spiritual collaboration to work towards a common goal – creating beautiful music which uplifts those who listen.”
Prospective singers are invited for the first rehearsal on August 29. Park in the back, come in through the gate, walk straight, turn left at the intersection of halls, and proceed to the choir room at the end of the hall. Be prepared to learn music, make new friends, and enjoy yourself. BCCS collects dues of $50 per person at the beginning of each season to purchase music and pay the director and accompanists.
The music is eclectic with something for everyone. There will be at least two holiday concerts on Sunday, December 4 (3 p.m.) at the Turnage, and December 11, (3 p.m.) at St Thomas Church in Bath. The program, still a work in progress, includes traditional pieces such as “O Holy Night” and “O Come, All Ye Faithful”; secular songs such as “Christmas Is Coming” and “Masters in the Hall”; and special selections featuring Vivaldi’s “Gloria” and the music of Edward Elgar.
