The Washington Montessori Public Charter School’s dance team is “90 percent” ready for Dancing With OUR Stars, according to school official Stacey Roberson.
The fundraising dance competition for which the team is preparing raises money for Eagle’s Wings, a nonprofit food pantry in Washington.
The curtain goes up on this show Aug. 13 at the Washington High School Performing Arts Center.
The winning team will be the one that raises the most money for Eagle’s Wings.
The Montessori crew will dance to the beach-music tunes “Wipe Out” and “Catch a Wave.”
“Celebrating summer vacation, just like our students,” Roberson, the school’s administrative assistant, wrote in an email. “Our staff kicks off their shoes, lets down their hair and shows everyone how to have a good time.”
Above all, the goal is to generate funds for Eagle’s Wings, she pointed out.
“As a Montessori school, we promote giving in the community, and we thought it would be great because we definitely encourage our children to participate in different charities,” Roberson said in an interview.
The team members are Roberson, Steve Jones, Sharon Main, Tracy Belyue, Jo Dee Anderson, Angie Bosso, Jen Hales, Quinteria Hill, Lois Omonde and Jessica Adams.
Also nearing readiness are the dancers and singers representing the nonprofit Turnage Theaters Foundation.
The Turnage act is titled “No Business Like Show Business,” a nod to the Irving Berlin tune.
This team’s performance will open the show.
“It’s a hoot, is all I can say,” commented Deborah Page Wright, one of the dancers. “We were really trying to project, since we’re representing the Turnage, a theatrical presentation.”
Also taking the stage for the Turnage will be Dorothy Hoban, Dick Hoban, Lois Cohen, Stan Cohen, Cindy Sutorious, Paul Cookley, Kay Currie, Emily Thigpen, Louise Hoar and Wright. The troupe will be accompanied by pianist Dave Grahek.
