PCA update: Stoop achieves milestone, soccer streak snapped

Senior hitter Reagan Stoop reached a volleyball milestone, while the team prepares for another deep state playoff run while the football Raiders are back in action after a bye week.
Volleyball: The Lady Raiders clinched their fourth consecutive Triangle Independent Conference regular season championship with wins last week.
PCA traveled to Ridgecroft where they made quick work of the Rams 25-9, 25-20, 25-20. Reagan Stoop added 20 kills while Autumn Gibbs added 9 aces. Anna Stoop contributed 30 assists on the night.
Thursday Pungo hosted Northeast Academy and prevailed 25-6, 25-8, 25-5. Reagan Stoop’s first kill was the 1,000th of her career. The Raiders called time to congratulate Stoop on becoming the first volleyball player in school history to reach the milestone. Stoop also added 10 aces and Anna Stoop had 19 assists. The Raiders are 20-4 and play Terra Ceia and Lawrence this week to finish out the regular season. PCA is ranked number one in the latest NCISAA 1A MaxPreps poll and will look for their second straight state title after the conference tournament.
Soccer: PCA traveled to Ridgecroft School, where the Raiders prevailed 7 – 4 to up their win streak to eight games. Maddox Lee had 3 goals while Davis Lee, Cutler Lee, Brody Tooley and Bruce Taylor each scored once. The win also extended the Raiders streak against their conference rival to a program record five games.
The Raiders winning streak ended Thursday with their first loss in over a month, 4-0, against Wilson Christian. Jay Askew had 12 saves for the Raiders.
Pungo (9-3) hosts Washington Montessori Thursday in their lone match of the week, with their final two regular season matches the following week. The Raiders are ranked second in the NCISAA state 1A poll. Davis Lee is third in goals with 28, while cousin Maddox Lee is fifth with 11. Askew leads 1A with 121 saves in goal.
Tennis: PCA lost at Ridgecroft School, 9-0, in their sole match of the week. The first-year Lady Raiders are 1 – 8. The Raiders will travel to Lawrence Academy and Oakwood School this week to finish up their regular season.
Football: PCA (2-3) had a bye week last week and host Halifax Academy (1-4) Friday. Senior Conner Sweet has caught 17 passes for 655 yards and 10 touchdowns and run for 240 yards and three scores. He’s also thrown a touchdown pass. Sophomore Quay Artis has 204 yards rushing and four touchdowns.
