Linda Evans, author of “Will You Sparkle in the Light,” is scheduled to sign copies of her book from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Crabby’s Stained Glass & Collectibles on Main Street in downtown Washington.
Evans, a nine-year Washington resident, describes the book as an “end-of-the-age crash course in the supernatural and spiritual things of God.”
The book contains anecdotes of Evans’ life, but it focuses on larger issues. She includes portions of notes from journals she wrote about her spiritual experiences during more than 24 years of her life. She said many of those experiences were supernatural ones.
Evans explained what she wanted to accomplish with the book.
“I hope Christians will read this book and see where the church is falling short in the original commission Jesus gave us. Most mature Christians think they believe they know the truth of God’s word to the point of thinking they have arrived,” she said. “Yet, God wants us all to know where we are falling short. The church is not walking in the power of the Holy Spirit, the way Jesus said we can and should. We aren’t seeing the miracles Jesus said we would see. My book teaches why we aren’t walking in that power, and the things in our lives that are hindering us. It is time to do the work of the ministry and stop playing church.”
Evans, born in Rock Hill, S.C., grew up in Charlotte. She said there are many preachers in her family, including her grandmother, who exhorted from her front porch.
Evans said she was healed of breast cancer in 1984, describing the healing as a “miracle and the very thing God used to get my attention in getting serious about serving Him.”
Evans explained that her literary work came about in an unconventional manner.
“I have always wanted to be a writer, but my path in life never seemed to lead that way. I have never studied writing, outside of one course in my commercial art program in college,” she said. “This is what makes writing this book so extraordinary. God could have used me in so many other areas of which I am equipped, but He chose to use me in doing something in which I had no training, writing. He says in His word He will use the foolish things of the world to confound the wise. I have a bachelor of theology in Christian counseling and a master of ministry in Christian counseling, but writing is something I have always done just for myself. I have kept journals of my Christian walk and relationship with Jesus for over 27 years.”
