Two months after its members were sworn in, the Washington-Warren Airport Authority is looking to replace two members who resigned earlier this month.
The Authority is looking for members who have expertise related to the operation of the airport which includes economic development and an aeronautical background.
Because the City of Washington is a sponsor of the Airport Authority, current members are required to send recommendations to city council for approval. Anyone who is interested in becoming a member of the board can express their interest to authority members. Members of the authority serve three-year, staggered terms.
The Airport Authority was established on July 1, 2022 by a bill passed through the General Assembly.
“The Airport Authority would be a unit of local government, subject to the Local Government Budget and Fiscal Control Act, able to sue and be sued in their own right, to serve a public purpose. The City of Washington could provide land, property, and appropriations of money to the Airport Authority,” according to the bill.
