The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will make repairs to the bridge in Bath leading into town. 

The project is expected to take 60 consecutive days (weather depending), according to Public Relations Officer, Andrew Barksdale. NCDOT does not have a date for when the project will begin; however, it is anticipated to be completed by Memorial Day 2023. NCDOT has budgeted $3.8 million for repairs. 

Drivers will take a detour from US 264 to Boyd Road then to Post Road to Jackson Swamp Road, Barksdale shared. 

The repairs are part of a larger project by NCDOT to work on two other bridges in Beaufort County and one in Pitt County. American Contracting and Services, Inc. is completing maintenance and preservation work on all of the bridges. They are working on N.C. 99 over Pantego Creek, N.C. 92 over Bath Creek, N.C. 306 over Whitehurst Creek, N.C. 306 over Bailey Creek and North Grimesland Bridge Road over the Tar River in Pitt County, according to the department. 

Bridges over N.C. 306 and North Grimesland Bridge Road will remain open to drivers as repairs are made. 

“Some of the preservation work to the five bridges will  include joint repairs, girder repairs, deck rehab, deck overlays, and concrete pile repairs. All of the work is scheduled to be completed by next summer,” according to NCDOT. 

The bridge over Bath Creek was first constructed in 1959, and is named after former mayor Ray S. Brooks.
