Mrs. Ella Mae Lyle Davenport, 80, of Plymouth, died Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
Born May 23, 1927 in Bogalusa, Louisiana, she was the daughter of the late Ervin E. and Mary Smith Lyle and was preceded in death by her sister, Elaine Lyle; brothers, George E. Lyle and Kermit A. Lyle. Mrs. Davenport was a homemaker and member of Roper Baptist Church. She was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Union and Golden Circle Sunday School Class.
Her family includes her husband, Atwood B. Davenport, Jr. of Plymouth, N.C.; sons, Stanley W. Davenport and wife Alice of Marlinton, W. Va. and Lyle A. Davenport of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Linda Davenport of Va. Beach, Va.; brothers, James C. Lyle and wife Faye of Roper, N.C.; Larry W. Lyle and wife B.J. of Plymouth, N.C. and Richard C. Lyle and wife Carolyn of Plymouth, N.C.; grandchildren, Erin Davenport, Jessica Davenport, Amanda Davenport and Wayne Davenport.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2008, at 2 p.m. in the Roper Baptist Church, Roper with the Rev. Howard Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Friday, January 25, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. at Roper Baptist Church and other times at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to Roper Baptist Church. Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell.
