As one business opens in Washington, another one is closing its doors. On Monday, the Tiki Car Wash Express opened on Monday, Dec. 12 at the corner of Bridge and Fifth Streets. On the other hand, Cups and Cones announced via social media that their last day will be Friday, Dec. 23. 

Car Wash

Chris Stevens, the regional director of operations for Magnolia Wash Holdings, said opening day was an “exciting day” for the company. He said many people told him they are happy to see the car wash open because they’ve waited a long time for it. He said the car wash has been “well received” by the community. 

The car wash offered free washes from Monday, Dec. 12 to Wednesday, Dec. 14. The car wash offers free vacuuming with every wash. Free towels and glass cleaner are available at every vacuum station. Customers can sign up for monthly memberships at reduced prices at this time. 

Stevens said Magnolia Wash Holdings and the employees at the Tiki Car Wash Express are “excited to be here and serve the people of Washington and we look forward to prosperous partnerships with everybody.”

Tiki Car Wash Express became one of 90 car wash locations across the southeast owned by Magnolia Wash Holdings. But don’t get used to calling it the Tiki Car Wash express, because Magnolia will be changing the name to the Whistle Express Car Wash. Magnolia purchased the car wash at the end of November 2022. 

Tiki Car Wash Express operates from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. from Sunday to Saturday in cold weather months but when it warms up again, it will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Cups and Cones 

Cups and Cones opened on Water Street in February of 2020 right before the COVID-19 pandemic. It was operated by Jayne Meisell and Pat Lewis. Meisell said she loved seeing customers both new and recurring. “I appreciate all the people that come here on a regular basis. They bring the kids and they bring their babies for their first ice cream.” Meisell continued to say she will miss seeing everyone. 

Meisell said she doesn’t know what will occupy the building after Cups and Cones. Meisell and Lewis can be found at the Little Shoppes of Washington on Main Street. 

“I want to thank everyone and appreciate all the people that’s come in to support us. It’s been a pleasure,” Meisell said.
