Weekend weather briefing: Feb. 10, 2023

Our office is currently monitoring a developing weather system that is forecasted to impact our area over the weekend. The greatest threats continue to be gusty winds and heavy rains that have the potential to cause localized flash flooding. Current forecast details for Beaufort County are as follows.

 

Rain

Most areas of Beaufort Co. is forecasted to receive 2 to 3 inches of rain between now and Monday as follows:

  • Friday: Rain chances will begin to increase around 3pm this afternoon and continue through midnight, with most areas forecasted to receive ¼ to ½ of an inch during this time.
  • Saturday – Monday: Rain is expected to move into the area around 7p Saturday night and continue through sunrise Monday morning. 2 +/- inches is forecasted during this time, with the heaviest rains occurring being 12 am and noon on Sunday.

 

Winds

  • Saturday: NE winds will begin to increase Saturday morning, becoming sustained between 10 and 15 mph with gusts of 20 to 25 mph.
  • Sunday & Monday: Sustained NE winds between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts of 25 to 35 mph are expected through noon Sunday. Winds will begin to transition to the west Sunday afternoon, becoming sustained between 15 and 20 mph with gusts of 20 to 30 mph through sunset Monday.

We are monitoring the potential for a coastal low to bring localized heavy rainfall/flash flooding, gusty winds, and minor coastal flooding to the region Sunday morning into Monday.
