On March 28, 2023, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a request for a welfare check on children living at a residence on Taylor Road in Chocowinity. The responding Deputy observed dogs in the yard that appeared to be deceased. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation, executed a search warrant, and collected evidence. Beaufort County Animal Control assisted with transporting and housing six (6) dogs seized from the residence.
As a result of the investigation, Detectives charged Sabrina Blount, age 34, of Taylor Road in Chocowinity with five counts of Misdemeanor Cruelty to Animals. The children were found to be safe.
On March 30, 2023, Blount turned herself in at the Magistrate’s Office and was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond set by a Beaufort County Magistrate. This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges are pending.
This is one example of Sheriff Hammonds’ A.C.E. of Hearts initiative.
