Northside sophomore Andrew Harding qualified for Friday’s 1A state track and field in three events and he will see plenty of familiar faces during the competition on North Carolina A&T’s track in Greensboro.

Harding finished second in the 1600 meters in Saturday’s East Regional meet at Pamlico County High School with a time of 4:50.55. He was fourth in the 3200 in 10:45.57 and was part of the third place 4 x 800 relay team along with Jack DeHoog, Tucker Proctor and Mason Newman who finished in 9:14.65. The top four finishers in each event move on to the state meet.

Southside had a pair of event winners as senior Elgin Stilley took the shot put with a throw of 44’09 and I’Kiriyah Minor won the girls triple jump with a leap of 34’02.

“That was a personal record for her and it’s a product of her extra work paying off,” girls track coach Kenzie Woolard said. “She decided to stop competing in a couple of running events to focus on the triple jump and it paid off for her.”

Other Seahawk qualifiers included senior Manvonte Deloach, who finished second in the boys high jump (6’2), the boys 4x 800 relay team of Jacob Taylor, Nolan Dixon, William Stonebraker and Kenny Avila, who finished fourth in 9:25.68 and the fourth place girls 4x 800 relay team of Janyah Moore, Lelia Jones, Emma Smith and Savannah Phelps (9:25.68)

Other Northside boys qualifiers include senior Zane Brooks, who finished third in the 110 hurdles (16.68) and the fourth place 4x 200 relay team of Faithful Fulcher, Jayvian O’Neal, Chase Tomaini and Curtis Toodle Jr.

Junior Keile Scott took fourth in the girls 1600 in 6:15.79 and was part of the third place 4x 800 relay team along with Bailey Singleton, Emma Boyd and Ava Hedgepeth.

Lejeune won the boys and girls East regional titles. Northside was sixth and Southside seventh in the boys meet, while the Panthers were seventh and the Seahawks eighth in the girls competition.

Washington High School did not have any qualifiers for the 2A state meet.
