A new, annual event at Washington High School celebrates seniors’ decisions to either enroll in higher education, enlist in the military or find employment.
The event is called “What’s Your E?” and is organized like a signing day for student athletes whereby seniors write on a dry erase board announcing their decision to either enroll in college, enlist in the military or find employment. The inaugural event was held Wednesday, May 24 at Washington High School’s auditorium.
Seniors listened to speeches from Washington High School alum Hayden Anderson who is in the U.S. Coast Guard and Beaufort County District Attorney Seth Edwards, according to the Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce who organized the event. Three students committed to active service in the military during a swearing-in ceremony, according to the chamber.
Seniors and their families then attended a reception in the school’s media center where they could meet with local businesses to learn about employment opportunities like event sponsor Nutrien as well as the City of Washington, ECU Health Beaufort Hospital and WIMCO General Contractor. Bright Futures Beaufort County was also an event sponsor.
