Severe weather threat this afternoon

Our office is currently monitoring the threat of severe weather this afternoon. Current forecast details for Beaufort County include:

Winds

  • Southwest winds will remain sustained between 10 and 15 mph through 7pm today, with frequent gust of 20 to 25 mph likely.

Rain & Severe Storms

  • The greatest chance of rain is forecasted to occur between 1pm and 10pm today, with ½ to 1 inch possible with passing storms. These storms will be capable of producing damaging winds. Large hail and isolated tornados remain possible.

There is potential for severe weather today associated with an approaching cold front which will cross the area tonight. Primary threat associated with severe storms will be damaging winds, but large hail and an isolated tornado remain possible.

Timing for the event is noon today until 11pm. The best chances will be this afternoon through this evening.
