Southside High School head football coach Jeff Carrow will be an assistant coach in the 252-919 All-Star game at John Paul II High School in Greenville in mid-December.

This will be the third year for the game and Beaufort County has been represented both years.

919 claimed the inaugural contest in 2021 as Washington quarterback Hayes Pippin and Southside running back/defensive back Kenjray Coffield competed for the 252 squad.

The East team bounced back with a victory last year as Seahawks linebacker Xavier Ham and Pam Pack center Myles Jackson were part of the team along with former WHS head coach Perry Owens and Southside athletic director/defensive coordinator Andrea Quinerly.

Carrow attended both games as a spectator, but will be in the middle of the action this time.

“I said yes in a hurry when they asked me,” Carrow said. “It will be a lot of fun and a great learning experience to be in on all the different aspects of putting the team together. All the coaches are part of the selection process, then we will be on the field during practices that week. I’m really looking forward to it.”

The game is for seniors who have completed their high school careers and might need one more look from college coaches to play at the next level.

For Carrow and the other coaches, it’s a chance to be around different athletes and also to pick up a pointer or two on how other programs do certain things.

“It will be fun to be around guys who love to talk football,” Carrow said. “I’m looking at this as a chance to learn how other coaches operate and possibly take some things back to help our program. It’s an honor to be recognized and it should be a fun week.”

Farmville Central’s Ron Cook is the 252 head coach. Coaches will meet periodically during the season to evaluate players and rosters will be announced in November.
