On Saturday, July 15, 2023 officers with the Washington Police Department responded to the area of 720 N. Market Street in reference to a reported shooting. Upon arrival officers located a 20 year old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Washington Police Department detectives began working the case immeidately and quickly developed a suspect, Daquan Marquis Keyes. Warrants were obtained for Daquan Keyes charging him with Assault with a Deadly Weapon With the Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury.

On July 17, Daquan Keyes was arrested in Bayboro, NC by deputies with the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office. Keyes initially tried to evade deputies by fleeing on foot but was quickly apprehended. Keyes was found in possession of a handgun at the time his arrest. Keyes is currently being held at the Pamlico County Jail under a $255,000.00 bond.
