“It feels great to hit someone other than ourselves.” That was the mood at the annual Beaufort County jamboree at Southside.
There were six teams at the jamboree including Southside, Northside, North Lenior, Manteo, Washington County, and Gates County. The teams played each other in full uniform for 10 or 12 offensive plays and 10 or 12 defensive plays.

Southside and Northside did not play each other as they wanted to save everything for the Anchor Bowl. Both teams enjoyed their games and are excited about the season opener next week.
The head football coach at Northside Keith Boyd said he was pleased with how his team played. “We looked great up front,” Boyd said. “We controlled the line of scrimmage very well. Our defensive line looked very physical, and our offensive line gave some big holes for the running backs.”
“Our running backs are very young and today it looked like they were thinking too much. We want them to just focus on playing and as the season progresses, they will definitely get better.”
Boyd said one thing they will work on before the first game is improving their communication. “We had some blown assignments,” Boyd said. “Communication needs to be better but that is also something that will improve as the season goes on and the chemistry will only get better. But our biggest win of the day is getting out of here with no injuries.”
Head coach of Southside Jeff Carrow said the day went alright. “We started very strong,” Carrow said. “We still have plenty of things to work on. We had some great plays, but we still have some things to clean up.”
“I love the team’s fight. We had some negative plays but right after we responded very well. We also worked in a bunch of kids and substitutes. The depth is already looking strong, and we will continue to build that up. Overall, I was pleased with how we played.”
Carrow was appreciative of the Chocowinity community for their support. “The numbers in the stands were great to see. The community’s support is always appreciated, and we love to see them out here,” Carrow said.
Both teams will get to hit another team for real starting next week with the first game of the regular season quickly approaching.
